Dimitile Hotel & Spa environmental policy

A sustainable and respectful renovation

The Dimitile Hôtel & Spa combines modernity, local culture and respect for the environment. Its architecture preserves its unique charm while meeting sustainable development criteria.

Respect for the site

The desire to blend in with the local environment, particularly the landscape, is paramount. Ecological diagnoses are carried out before any work is carried out. These provide recommendations on how to enhance and/or protect the ecology (tree protection, gentle clearing, possible relocation of protected species, etc.). Plants contribute to the visual comfort of our guests and to the development of a feeling of harmony with Nature.

The architecture blends into the environment: views from inside, plants acting as privacy screens and sunbreakers, sober and uncluttered buildings that remain discreet and in keeping with the natural, historical and cultural environment. Waterproof surfaces are kept to a minimum, with preference given to permeable coverings. Natural lighting is favoured and lighting fittings are positioned to minimise damage to local wildlife.

Designed in accordance with the standards of the EDEN group, the hotel favours a low-carbon construction, respectful of the environment and optimised for comfort. Sustainability is at the heart of the project, incorporating solutions to reduce the carbon footprint during construction and operation.

Indoor air quality in enclosed spaces is a criterion that leads us to avoid materials containing VOCs (volatile organic compounds) wherever possible.

Bioclimatic design

The buildings benefit from optimised orientation and reflective roofs, with reinforced thermal insulation. This approach maintains pleasant temperatures all year round, complemented by abundant vegetation to cool the site. Bioclimatic architecture, the inertia of the buildings and solar protection all help to attenuate daily temperature variations, eliminating the need for air conditioning.

Nature and biodiversity

The landscaping project highlights endemic species and preserves existing trees, which will be replanted after the works. This vegetation provides a soothing setting and supports local biodiversity.

Natural ventilation and renewable energy

The layout of the rooms encourages natural air circulation, supplemented by air circulation fans, thus avoiding the need for air conditioning and heating. The Dimitile Hôtel & Spa has a centralised solar hot water production system that covers 76% of the site’s needs (with electric back-up on less sunny days).

Water savings and responsible management

Water-saving equipment and a pool cover that limits evaporation are among the initiatives taken to better manage this precious resource. The pool is heated by a heat pump.

Local and responsible materials

We are careful to remain consistent in our selection of materials, which are also key factors in eco-construction. With the support of in-house engineering AMANTA and its partners, the choice of materials and furnishings, are made taking into account their sustainability and carbon footprint. Local and/or bio-sourced materials are preferred. We limit the environmental impact of the use of materials by optimising quantities and encouraging the use of recycled materials. We repair and encourage re-use. We ensure that the various parties involved in the worksite adhere to responsible sourcing by making sure that our recommendations are included in the works contracts.

Wood, chosen for its ecological qualities, is used for outdoor features such as terraces and the restaurant. With no chemical treatment, it guarantees respectful and sustainable integration.

Inspired and authentic decoration

The interior design showcases Reunionese craftsmanship with timeless, durable furniture. Existing solid wood furniture has been restored to preserve its value.

Eco-responsible day-to-day management

The team is trained in sustainable practices and uses tools to monitor and improve energy performance. The hotel reduces plastic waste by promoting reusable packaging and refillable products.

All guests are encouraged to limit the amount of washing they do. The number of towels offered is adapted to the number of occupants. Clear information is made available to guests so that they can take ownership of the establishment’s environmental approach.

Short circuit table

The restaurant makes the most of local, seasonal produce, working with local producers to guarantee freshness and quality. In partnership with the association ‘La Gourmandise des Moches’, the hotel fights against food waste by offering homemade jams made from downgraded fruit.

Environmentally-friendly activities

Hiking, discovering the local heritage and showcasing regional artisans are on the programme to offer authentic experiences with low ecological impact.
